Ms. Germany believes ‘Ms. Colombia was robbed’
While Ms. Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and Ms. Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach handled the situation with grace fitted for a beauty queen, a bitter Ms. Germany was upset and blurted in an interview that none of this year’s candidates voted for Miss Philippines for the Miss Universe 2015 crown.
In an interview hours after the coronation, Ms. Germany Universe Sarah-Lorraine Riek said:
“I couldn’t believe it. I was so upset because, for me, she was robbed…I was very happy for Colombia, actually. she really deserved it. But I’m very unhappy with the result and so were the other girls, I’m very sorry to say it.”
A video of the interview was posted on the Missosology Facebook page. Missosology is a site devoted to covering international beauty pageants.
When asked why she and other candidates went directly to Ms. Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, instead of congratulating Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Ms. Philippines, who was crowned as Ms. Universe, this was her reply:
“Because no one of us voted for Philippines. I’m so sorry to say that.” When the correspondent asked her to elaborate, Riek replied, “No, I don’t want to talk about that.”
When she was asked how she would have handled the situation had she been in Gutierrez’s place, she said that it would be the “most awful situation ever”.
“That would be a nightmare,” she said. “To get crowned Ms. Universe and for them to take away the crown, I feel so sorry for her (Gutierrez). But I would have passed the crown and would still be proud to represent my country.”
This year’s Miss Universe could probably be the most unconventional Ms. Universe coronation ever. Host Steve Harvey mixed up the winners initially announcing Ms. Colombia when in fact it was Ms. Philippines who really won. Minutes after the blunder, Harvey went on the stage to correct himself and apologize.
Meanwhile, Riek rant has already started making rounds on social media where she is getting negative feedback.
