‘Foreign Body’ screens at TK Park
The Contemporary World Film Series is back this weekend, April 29, Saturday, 4pm at the Thailand Knowledge Park, 8th floor, Central World, Dazzle Zone, with the screening of ‘Foreign Body’ by globally renowned Polish film-maker Krzysztof Zanussi. The movie was shot on location in three countries. The movie has hit a bit of controversy among a few women’s groups due to its strong Catholic background, fused with political, moral and feminist overtones.
Angelo, an Italian, and Kasia, his Polish girlfriend, both met in Italy. Both are Catholic believers but Kasia plans to join a convent in Poland. He allows her to go but hopes that she will change her mind in the future. Angelo follows her to Poland but meets his beautiful, complex and seductive boss, Nilska. His boss does everything to get Angelo’s attention, even Mira, the boss’ assistant, joined in and played with Angelo around just to be noticed.
According to Director Zanussi, the movie’s characters were based on real-life, even including the female protagonist’s mother who was a former Communist dictator. The characters are strong and unforgettable, he continues. The movie has made waves in many different movie festivals, inciting dialogue where the movie is shown. Musical scoring was created by Wojciech Kilar, who unfortunately died before the filming ended. Director Krzysztof Zanussi was hailed by a Toronto Festival reviewer as a “master of Polish film who crafts a dangerous love story of poetic moments, which is often disrupted by chaos and righteousness”.
The screening of Foreign Body is endorsed and supported by the Embassy of Poland. It is also the closing activity of the Polish Arts and Culture Week in Bangkok, which is organized by the Centre for European Studies, Department of English, and Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University from April 23-29.
Ticket price is at 20 Baht for the One-Day Pass. The venue will be open at 3:00pm.
