With the coming of King Bhumibol’s cremation day on October 26, The Ministry of Transport has updated the public on what roads will be closed and what forms of transport are available.
Here’s a list of road closures and other updates on transportation:
A number of major roads will be affected and will close during the royal cremation ceremony from October 25- 28. They include Ratchadamnoen Avenue and Lak Muang, Kalayana Maitri, Charoen Krung, Phra Pipit, Thaiwang, Maha Rat, Phra Chan, Setthakan, Chetupon, Phraya Petch, Na Phra Lan, Na Phra That, Rajini, Phra Athit and Saranrom roads.
The BTS Skytrain and MRT systems will operate as usual and will offer free rides on Oct. 26.
For those who are using motorways, the interim cabinet has approved waiving tolls for motorways No. 7 (Motorway Bangkok-Chonburi) and No. 9 (Motorway Bang Pa-In–Bang Phli) from Oct. 24 to 27. Likewise on Oct. 26, Don Mueang Tollway and Si Rat-Outer Ring Road Expressway will be free.
The Airport Rail Link will also offer free rides on October 25 – 27.
Bangkok BRT bus rides will be free from October 25 – 27 from BRT Sathorn to BRT Ratchapruek only.
Chao Phraya Express Boats will offer free rides on October 26 from Wat Rajsingkorn pier to Nonthaburi (Pibulsongkram 3) pier. However, ferries will not run at Tha Phra Atit, Tha Rajinee and Tha Chang piers from October 25-27.
