Travel agency in HK fails to deliver tickets to OFWs

Some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were upset to know that they are not flying home this Christmas holiday as a travel agency fails to confirm the bookings of their tickets.

OFWs in Hong Kong were surprised after PEYA Travel was not able to produce the flights. On PEYA’s Facebook page, PEYA posted an apology stating that they are sorry for the affected passengers and that they are doing all they can in order to accommodate the customers.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, Vicky Delino, a household service worker in Hong Kong, already tapped PEYA’s services for a ticket. She already booked her Cathay Pacific flight since July. “Nakakaiyak eh…mga anak ko nag-iiyak,” said Delino. Delino claims that her confirmed flight was not paid by PEYA.

The travel agency, however, sent Delino a text message apologizing for the inconvenience caused, citing that PEYA had system failure.

Another OFW, Marion Antoin Alexis, had the same issue with the same agency. She says that her flight will be tonight but suddenly, PAL Philippines said that PEYA was not able to pay on time, thus the hassle. Alexis bought her ticket through the agency last September 17.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong expresses concern over the incident and urged the public not to transact with PEYA Travel for now, until the issue is resolved. It also said that it is expecting PEYA Travel to take responsibility and take possible steps to resolve it.

“We further urge the complainants to maintain sobriety and calmly liaise with PEYA Travel in order to secure a new flight booking, or avail of refund… The public can rest assured that the Consulate will continue to monitor this situation and liaise with relevant government authorities to ensure that the administrative liabilities of PEYA Travel with respect to these incidents are duly imposed.”
