The bombing at Ratchaprasong in Bangkok, Monday night rendered one Filipino woman injured, contrary to earlier reports released by the media where it was stated that one Filipino died from the blast, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said Tuesday. “The (Philippine) Embassy confirms that one Filipina was injured. She sustained injury to her hearing due to the blast.”
Jose further added, “She is in Bangkok together with a foreign family she is working for and will return to their country soon.”
However, Jose refused to reveal the Filipina’s identity, upon the latter’s request. “She requests that her other personal details not be revealed,” Jose added.
Initial reports said that a Filipino was included among the 20 who died from the attack at Bangkok’s Erawan Shrine, however the DFA said the information still needed verification.
The Philippine government advised all Filipinos in Bangkok to take extra precautions, but is yet to issue a travel alert. There are about 14,000 to 15,000 Filipinos residing in Thailand, majority of whom live in Bangkok.
“We are assessing security situation in Thailand to determine our next course of action,” stated Jose.
The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok is still working closely with Thai authorities to verify if there was indeed a Filipino death from the Erawan shrine bombing.
A team from the Philippine consular is making city and hospital rounds to confirm if there are any injuries or deaths that involve Filipinos and to provide assistance.
