4 Filipinos arrested for visa issues

A total of 4 Filipinos were arrested on Friday, January 25 for overstaying their visas and for working without permit. Two of them were arrested for overstaying in Phuket, while the 2 others for working without permit in Sa Kaeo Province. Thai authorities have already informed the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.  It is unsure whether those two who got arrested were among the 503 foreigners who were rounded up by authorities for illegally entering Thailand and other crimes during simultaneous searches at 217 locations around the country early Friday as reported by The Nation. According to the report, Immigration Police Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj-General Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai held a 1am press conference in front of Bangkok’s Street Ratchadapisek mall to say it was part of the government’s crackdown on transnational scammers, card skimmers and drug traffickers, as well as foreigners breaking immigration laws. The searches took place at locations including four schools, 73 private firms and shops, six service establishments and 50 hotels and hostels, he said.
