Bangkok orders closure of 31 venue types for 2 weeks, mandatory face mask wearing

Bangkok’s Communicable Disease Committee has decided to close 31 types of venue and make it compulsory for everyone to wear a face mask when they are outdoors, effective for 2 weeks, starting Monday.

Pol Cpt Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA), said that the new restrictions were announced after a meeting of the Communicable Disease Committee, chaired by Governor Aswin Kwanmuang, to cope with the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Bangkok, where 1,582 new infections were recorded on Saturday alone.

The venues to close are:

  • Theatres and cinemas
  • Indoor & outdoor amusement and water parks
  • Zoos
  • Skateboard and rollerblade alleys
  • Billiard or snooker parlors
  • Game rooms and game machines
  • Internet parlors
  • Public swimming pools
  • Fitness clubs and gyms
  • Trade exhibition centres 
  • Exhibition halls
  • Museums
  • Public Libraries
  • Nurseries
  • Daily home care service for seniors
  • Boxing stadia
  • Martial Arts Schools
  • Tattoo parlours
  • Dancing schools
  • Horse race courses
  • Amulet Trading Centres
  • Beauty clinics
  • Weight loss clinics
  • Traditional Thai and foot massage parlours
  • All kinds of competitive grounds
  • Conference rooms
  • Banquet rooms
  • Beauty salons, except hair cutting and washing services without queuing
  • All sports stadia and courts
  • Public parks and exercise grounds
  • Convenience stores open from 5am to 10pm
  • Shopping malls and department stores open from 11am to 9pm

All social activities, film production, religious activities and gatherings of more than 20 participants are also banned.
