Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health confirmed on Saturday, 109 new cases of coronavirus and one new fatality from the disease, reported Thai Enquirer.
The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 1,245 cases and six fatalities.
Of the confirmed cases, 1,032 patients are Thai nationals while 213 are foreign nationals. The majority of those infected are male at 61.4 percent.
Bangkok was the largest site of the outbreak with 534 confirmed cases within the capital. The greater Bangkok area also saw 144 other cases. 488 Cases were spread throughout the other provinces while 79 cases were recorded in the country’s three southernmost provinces. The cases in the deep south stem partly from a religious festival in Malaysia which has also been the major cause of outbreak in that country as well.
“As you can see, the number of cases continues to rise,” said Ministry of Public Health spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanayothin, “that means we cannot rest and must continue to practice self-isolation and discipline.
COVID-19 in the Philippines
The Department of Health on Saturday reported 272 new cases of coronavirus disease, the biggest single-day increase since the outbreak began, raising the country total to 1,075.
Fourteen more patients have died from COVID-19. The death toll is now at 68.
Meanwhile, four more people have been cleared of coronavirus infection, for a total of 35 recoveries.
The DOH has said cases are bound to increase as the government expands its testing efforts. Five government laboratories can now test COVID-19 samples.
Worldwide, COVID-19 has killed more than 27,000 people, mostly in Italy. Over 600,000 people have been infected, according to the Johns Hopkins University’s COVID-19 global tracker.
To prevent the spread of the virus, authorities are urging people to practice regular hand washing, cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and avoid close contact with those who exhibit symptoms of the virus.
