The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, represented by Minister Counsellor Dewi Lestari, has disclosed a surge in complaints from Indonesian nationals facing entry restrictions to Thailand, with reasons varying across cases. In response, the embassy issued a general advisory applicable to all foreign tourists planning to visit Thailand, irrespective of their nationality.
The advisory emphasizes the importance of demonstrating sufficient financial capacity throughout their stay in the country. While specific monetary requirements were not outlined by Thai Immigration, Lestari mentioned a ballpark figure of 15,000-20,000 baht per person, based on unofficial sources.
“Thailand Immigration did not specifically mention how much money visitors must bring, but based on an open source at least 15,000-20,000 baht per person,” Lestari said.
This aligns with information posted on thaiconsulatela.thaiembassy.org, indicating that travelers under the Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme should possess at least 20,000 baht per person or 40,000 baht per family.
“Travelers entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme must possess adequate cash of or equivalent to 20,000 Baht per person or 40,000 Baht per family.”
The advisory further specifies that visitors must present a valid passport with a minimum six-month validity, evidence of a return ticket, and proof of accommodation.
Non-compliance with these requirements could result in a violation of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979), empowering immigration officers to deny entry to tourists.
While not every tourist may undergo a detailed check, immigration officers retain the authority to perform random verifications if deemed necessary. Consequently, tourists are urged to adhere to the guidelines consistently to ensure a smooth travel experience.
