The National Telecom (NT) and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) conducted a test using the Cell Broadcast (CB) disaster warning system on Sunday.
In a The Nation article, The test, which was done at the National Telecom’s headquarters in Chaengwattana, is in response to the 7.7 earthquake that happened last March 28.
NT’s Managing Director Colonel Sappachai Huwanan said that the cell broadcast system is effective as it can send warnings to mobile phones in designated areas fast, and that the system will be operational as scheduled.
“NT is committed to advancing the development of digital and telecommunications infrastructure to support government initiatives and enhance the economy’s communication security in both normal and crisis situations,” he said.
