Thailand’s First “Miss World” Returns Home

In a historic feat, Thailand’s first ever Miss World, Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri, arrived back in Bangkok, on Saturday, June 14.

According to a Bangkok Post article, upon Opal’s arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport, she was greeted with loud cheers from pageant fans. “This crown belongs to every Thai”, where she made a speech at the arrival area of the said airport. She is joined by Miss World Organization Chair Julia Morley.

Fans showed up in dazzling style, mimicking Opal’s gowns and looks from the competition. They also wore matching shirts with “Opal for Her, Opal for World”, a “nod to the social media movement that had followed her from the start of her pageant journey in 2022.

A victory parade was set along Sukhumvhit Road. Opal is the first Thai beauty queen to wear the blue crown from Miss World since its inception 72 years ago.

In a press conference, Opal layed down her plans to use her reign to address global issues, specifically about breast cancer awareness and healthcare equity. “This crown means I can finally reach people in need, shine a light for them.”

Opal left the airport on board a 2025 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II where she was taken to Bangkok Planetarium, where her welcome home parade started.

Opal will also pay a courtesy call to meet the Prime Minister at the Government House on Monday, as mentioned by Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsup.
