At least 1,000 runners joined the School Supply Drive Fun Run on Sunday, August 20 at Rot Fai Park in Chatuchak District, Bangkok.
The fun run is a project of the Adventist Youth Association (AYA) and was managed by Run Around Thailand, one of the biggest event organizers in Thailand. AYA president Chona Ronquillo and runner Gelan Resuena led and conceptualized the fundraising event. Resuena is also president of the Chantaburi-Trat Filipino Association (CHAFTA).
Most of the runners are Thais, Filipinos and some foreign nationals. Many Filipino runners were Seventh-day Adventist Church members in Bangkok, Pattaya, Rayong, Nakhon Pathom, Sampran and Sriracha.
Registration was opened at 4:30 a.m. and the first set of runners started running at exactly 6:00 o’clock. The event ended at around 8: 00 in the morning.
School Supply Drive Fun Run was the first major marathon organized by Filipinos in Thailand.
