The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened Vibhaphirom Park, on Vibhavadi Soi 18 in Chatuchak district, the capital’s newest public park.
BMA permanent secretary Silapasuay Raweesangsoon said the park is one of the first projects under the Green Bangkok 2030 campaign and will play a role in City Hall’s efforts to improve the physical and mental health of Bangkok’s residents.
She said the BMA and its partners, including non-governmental organizations, have turned more vacant land into public parks over the past nine years. The BMA wants to convert vacant land, including small spaces behind or next to buildings, into green public spaces in the future.
Another such project, Wat Hua Lamphong Rukkhaniwet Park, which stands on unused land behind Rama IV Road in Bang Rak district, also opened on Wednesday. The park was set up under the “We!Park” project, with support from the BMA and Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), aiming to develop “pocket parks” throughout Bangkok, to offer stressed citizens some relief from the dense urban environment.
