Chiang Mai of Thailand has outperformed Davao City in the Philippines as the safest city in Southeast Asia. Davao is now second with Singapore as third.
According to Numbeo, a website described as the world’s largest cost-of-living database, Chiang Mai got 75.5 points for the safest city in Southeast Asia while Bangkok is in seventh place with 59.5 points.
Khun Anucha Burapachaisri, Thailand government spokesperson, said that PM Prayut is happy to hear that Chiang Mai got the top spot in Southeast Asia.
“Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked all related agencies for ensuring safety among people.”
Anucha added that the recent welcoming news for Chiang Mai is a reflection of the government’s active measures against crime, improving the lives of its citizens, and improving the trust among foreign visitors.
Chiang Mai is also the 32nd safest city among 416 cities in the world. The safest city in the world belongs to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, with 88.8 points. Next is Doha, the capital of Qatar, with 85.5 points.
When it comes to the safest countries in Southeast Asia, Brunei tops the list. Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines follow accordingly.
