Court approves temporary release of deadly inferno pub owner

The owner of Mountain B pub, where 15 souls lost their lives and injured 38 more people due to fire, is now released on bail.

Despite the opposition from the police authorities, Pattaya Provincial Court approved the temporary conditional freedom of Pongsiri Panprasong with a cash surety of 300,000 baht handed by his lawyer Anucha Wongsrisat.

The 27-year-old Pongsiri should wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and should not tamper with it. He is also required to report back to the court in 24 days, and twice more after that.

The Mountain B pub inferno on Friday took the lives of 15 people and injured 38 more. The owner was subsequently arrested and brought to Phu Ta Luang police station.

Authorities then brought him to the court in Pattaya to ask for another 12 days of detaining him to allow more investigation of the case. The court granted Pongsiri, also known as “Sia B”, temporary release instead.

Pongsiri was charged with negligence causing deaths and operating a nightspot without permission. He acknowledged both charges and asked apologies promising that he “will do everything to ensure compensation”.

“I am very sorry. I will do everything to ensure compensation. I will compensate everyone,” he said.
