COVID-19 cases in Thailand soar to 4,887 on Thursday

The number of new COVID-19 cases announced on Thursday morning soared to a new high of 4,887, increasing from 1,983 on Wednesday, with 32 new deaths, a slight decrease from 34.

On Wednesday, the Department of Corrections admitted that nearly 3,000 detainees tested positive for Covid-19.

Of the infected inmates, 1,795 were found at the Bangkok Remand Prison and 1,040 at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution.

All infected prisoners have been moved to a field hospital run by the department.
