One of our “kababayan” who is now confined at Chulalongkorn Hospital is in dire need of financial help after having been diagnosed of kidney failure.
On Sunday, September 27, prodded by her friends, Vilma Tubban was rushed to the hospital where she immediately underwent dialysis. Her kidney hasn’t been functioning and her vital signs were very low according to the doctor. She needs maybe three more dialysis sessions this week.
Last week, Tubban already suffered some difficulties in passing urine so she consulted with a doctor in Serithai Hospital in Bangkapi where she underwent a series of blood tests. Results showed that her creatinine was very high, so she was given some medications and was advised to undergo dialysis.
Tubban who was reluctant to go to the hospital decided to just go back to the Philippines to continue her medication where the cost of dialysis is a lot cheaper. She also has PhilHealth that can be used to subsidize her medical expenses. However, her health condition became worse before she could even get her ticket and make relevant arrangements for her trip.
Below is the email sent by Ms. Aurora Buan Cornelio, president of the Association of the Miraculous Medal in Bangkok asking for help to our fellow kababayan.

“Ms. Vilma Tubban needs our help financially and spiritually. She is confined at Chulalongkorn University after having been diagnosed of kidney failure and other complications that almost led to cardiac arrest last night. Last week, she already suffered some difficulties in passing urine so she consulted with a hospital in Serithai (Bangkapi), which is quite close to her apartment. There, she underwent a series of tests including blood and other laboratory analysis.
Results showed that her creatinine was very high, was given some medications and was advised to undergo dialysis. Due to the high cost of dialysis, she opted to go back to the Philippines to continue medication there. Before she could get her ticket for the Philippines and making relevant arrangements for her trip to the Philippines, she felt she was getting worse, so she called VOPA President, Ms. Bella Santos telling her of her condition and that she needed prayers.
On Sunday, 27 September, Ms. Bella and Mrs. Sulit visited Ms. Vilma at her apartment. She showed her medical records, which Ms. Bella relayed to her brother in the U.S. who is a physician, who advised us to take her to hospital as soon as possible.
Although unwilling to be hospitalized for lack of funds to cover possible expenses, Ms. Vilma was forced by Ms. Bella and some friends, who chipped in some funds for her taxi fare and initial expenses. Upon arriving Chulalongkorn Hospital, she was immediately told to undergo dialysis as her kidney was no longer functioning and her vital signs were already very low. She had one session of dialysis last night and might need three more within this week.
Without any means to paying for her dialysis as well as air-ticket for the Philippines, we are therefore asking for financial help from kapwa Filipinos in Thailand. Once able, she would go back to Philippines to continue her dialysis, which might come cheaper because she has PhilHealth and other insurance there.
