High-level nostalgia can be felt among Filipinos who attended the “Breakfast Salo-Salo” at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, June 9.
The event was hosted by the Embassy in celebration of the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Filipinos from all walks of life attended the celebration. Some pinoys also brought their kids to have a feel of what independence is about.
“Second year since I moved to Bangkok over 4 years ago that I managed to join the Sunday Breakfast Salo-Salo at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok. Seeing our flag being raised and singing our National Anthem always makes me emotional. As someone who has lived most of my adult life outside of the Philippines, it really gives me joy always during the month of June to participate in all of these festivities. Mabuhay!,” posted Sonia Zerrudo on Facebook after the celebration. Zerrudo is a regional sales manager of an international garment company.
Her Excellency Ambassador Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon read the speech of President Rody Duterte. Consuls General Val Roque and Mary Ann Padua also read speeches of Vice President Leni Robredo and DFA Secretary Teddy Locsin, respectively.
The Embassy also provided free pinoy food which was prepared by Happy Bee, a restaurant managed by a Filipino. Meanwhile, Akara Hotel which is owned by a Filipina also gave pandesal and pandecoco.
A number of Filipinos also availed consular services until 2:00 pm.
