Korat teens earn praise for saving schoolmate’s life

Three senior highschool students from Nakhon Ratchasima have earned praise online after performing CPR on a student’s life.

In a Bangkok Post article, the incident happened about 9 am on Monday at Surathampitak School when a ninth-grade student collapsed in the classroom. Classmates alerted the teacher and twelfth-graders Jirapat Srisawang (Tonkla), Kittiphop Khaisai (Prite) and Rattaphum Khaojornsathit (Pun) rushed in to help.

Upon realizing that the ninth-grader was unresponsive and without a pulse, the students retrieved an oxygen tank and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Working in rotation, the students administered chest compression for over 30 minutes until the student regained vital signs and started breathing again. The victim was transported to Suranaree Camp Hospital, where he remains under close medical care.

The three students, who underwent basic life-saving training and are active emergency response volunteers, said that they felt proud that their skills were able to be of help in crucial situations.

School principal Sarawut Chaemmuangpak praised the three students’ quick response, while emphasizing the importance of first aid training, particularly with CPR, which the school conducts regularly.

The heroic deed of the three students have drawn online praise from netizens highlighting the crucial outcome of CPR skills during emergencies.
