After months of waiting and speculations, it has been confirmed that Liza Soberano will reprise the role of Darna in an upcoming movie adaptation, to be directed by Erik Matti.
In an exclusive interview by ABS-CBN’s MJ Felipe, Soberano said that she has accepted the said role. Soberano has starred in numerous ABS-CBN shows like “Dolce Amore”, “Forevermore” and significantly “Got To Believe”, where she debuted in 2011 with onscreen partner Enrique Gil.
Liza became the latest pick for the role as Angel Locsin, who starred the role in 2005, had to back out due to a severe back injury. Angel though called her fans to support whoever may reprise the said role.
Liza also succeeds Marian Rivera, who was 24 at that time, in 2009 in GMA-7’s TV adaptation. According to Matti who has been tasked to direct the film, he has agreed that Soberano has the built to successfully play the role, and give justice at that.
“She has the strength physically, ‘yung itsura at katawan. And then tama ‘yung edad and you can do a lot of things sa mukha niya. Puwede siya mag-iba-iba ng itsura and she could still look really good. At the same time, Pinay siya na maganda, pan-Asian. Mahirap ‘yung mestiza eh,” he said.
