Increased police visibility, with mascots and balloons, looms over Thailand’s busy airports during the holiday season, as a projection of increased holiday makers coming in the kingdom.
The “Love at First Sight” campaign, according to Major General Pruettipong Prayoonsiri of the Immigration Police Division 2 said that they “we’re the vanguard of welcoming and bidding farewell to tourists, we want them to be impressed by us.”
The said campaign aims to deploy more officers and install extra informational screens for passengers’ convenience throughout Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. It also includes extra informational booths in the arrivals lounge as well as Immigration Police mascots, “TemJai Haiborigan” (Full-Hearted Service – the male mascot) and “Yimyaem Jaemsai” (Bright Smiles – the female mascot), who will hand out balloons in heart and animal shapes.
Pruettipong added that there’s news about bad queues and service in the airports, but since there are more flights during the New Year, they wanted to take extra care of the travelers.
This campaign has already started since Monday, December 25, will last until New Year’s Day.
General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport Sirote Duangratana said that from Thursday until January 3, an estimated 1.3 million travelers will pass through the airport, on 7,200 flights. Parking fees in Zone C will be waived Saturday, December 30, until January 2.
