Narcos: Mexico star in medical coma after PH visit

Mexican actor Manuel Masalva, best known for his role in Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico”, is in critical condition after contracting a dangerous bacterial infection after his visit to the Philippines.

In an ABS-CBN News article, Department of Health (DOH) spokesman Albert Domingo confirmed the 44-year-old star was placed in a medically induced coma after his trip to the Philippines.

The Narcos: Mexico star visited the country last March 14 before flying to Dubai on March 18. According to his manager Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, Masalva “began to feel internal discomfort and pain which increased by the day” just 2 days after arriving in Dubai.

The DOH, on the one hand, urged the public not to panic following the news. He said that Masalva is responding to antibiotics. Accordingly, the DOH believes that he could have contracted food poisoning or had swum in the ocean with an open wound.

The DOH added that they have already contacted health units in tourist spots in the country and “we have not received reports of similar case thus far.”
