National Holiday: October 23 is Chulalongkorn Memorial Day

On October 23, the whole country will remember King Chulalongkorn, one of the most revered kings in Chakri dynasty. Chulalongkorn Memorial Day is celebrated annually and usually observed by all companies and organisations. The holiday commemorates the passing of King Chulalongkorn who died on October 23, 1910. 

King Chulalongkorn, or King Rama V, was the fifth monarch from the Chakri dynasty of which the current King Vajiralongkorn is the tenth ruler. At the age of 57, and having ruled what was then Siam for 42 years since ascending the throne at the age of 15, he was one of the Kingdom’s most revered heads of state, according to www.expique.com

King Chulalongkorn led several major reforms in Thailand, for example in the areas of Thai educational system, military affairs, State Railway and Slave Liberation Act without bloodshed in Thailand.
