United Arab Emirates (UAE) court acquitted Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Jennifer Dalquez from death row after being convicted of murdering her male employer, said her 53-year old mother to Rappler on Tuesday, June 20.
Jennifer Dalquez, who is from General Santos City, was imprisoned in December 2014 for the alleged crime of murder, and was sentenced to death in May 2015. Her defense states that her employer tried to rape her at knifepoint. It eventually led to killing her employer as a self defense.
According to the OFW’s mother, her 30-year old daughter will only serve 5-year jail sentence for stealing a mobile phone and will then be repatriated back to the Philippines after serving. “Nabunutan ako ng tinik sa dibdib. Wala na siyang death sentence,” exclaimed Jennifer’s mother.
Migrante International, also confirmed the situation of Dalquez with her family. Migrante International, a nongovernmental organization, said that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) relayed the news to both the NGO and the family. The DFA is just waiting for the official confirmation from the Philippine Embassy in UAE.
