UPDATE: Filipina Injured, Not Dead, in Bangkok Bombing

“The (Philippine) Embassy confirms that one Filipina was injured. She sustained injury to her hearing due to the blast.” – Charles Jose, Foreign Affairs spokesman, PHL Embassy Bangkok.

Nation TV reported that two Chinese and one Filipino are the foreign casualties declared dead at Police Hospital.

Bangkok-based foreign correspondent David Eimer also reported that among injured victims are Chinese, Singaporean, Filipino, Malay and Thais. There are no Westerners.

Bangkok Post also reported that the “bomb explosion near one of Bangkok’s most popular tourist attractions killed 18 people and injured approximately 117 others – mostly tourists”.

Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmuang Somyot said that the attackers hid the bomb under a bench and not in a motorcycle as was reported earlier. Three bombs were planted at the location but only one exploded and the two others were disposed by police officers.

He condemned the act as being cruel and vicious that took the lives of many in a place teemed with commuters and tourists.
