PHL ranks 20th; TH, 74th in global English proficiency ranking

The Philippines ranked 20th out of 100th in The world’s largest ranking of countries and regions by English skills, according to the ninth edition of the EF English Proficiency Index.

EF EPI is based on test data from more than 2,300,000 test takers around the world who took the EF Standard English Test (EF SET) or one of its English placement tests in 2018.

The Philippines scored 60.14 which is considered high proficiency. It also ranks 2nd among 25 Asian countries which was topped by Singapore.

Meanwhile, Thailand ranked 74th out of 100 countries with a score of 47.62, which is considered “very low” proficiency.

In 2018, Thailand ranked 64th out of 88 countries with a score of 48.54, while in 2017 it ranked 53rd out of 80 countries with a score of 49.7, Bangkok Post reported.

Topping the EF English Proficiency Index 2019 is the Netherlands with score of 70.27 considered very high proficiency.
