Pink Line Extension nears completion; offer free trial rides in June

The Pink Line extension to Muang Thong Thani is now at 97.81% complete. Trial runs begin in May with free public rides starting in June before its full service on July 19.

In a The Nation report, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has reported progress on the Pink Line monorail extension from Si Rat Station to Muang Thong Thani. As of the end of April 2025, civil works are 97.01% complete, and rail system installation at 99.41% complete, bringing over completion to 97.81%.

According to project concessionaire Northern Bangkok Monorail Co., Ltd. (NBM), train testing movements and system integration along the extension line has begun testing. Testing routes include the currently active Muang Thong Thani Station (PK10) to the new extension stations at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani (MT01) and Lake Muang Thong Thani (MT02).

Testing is expected to last 1-2 months, to be followed by a trial run in May, simulating actual operations. The free public ride trial is planned for late June, with actual commercial operations to begin on July 19, 2025. Fares begin from 15 baht to 22 baht, with the line to join the 20-baht flat fare scheme by September 2025.

This line extension, which features the use of the monorail system, is aimed to urbanize the rail network along Bangkok and surrounding areas. It also pushes for use of public transport to easen traffic along the Chaeng Wattana road, and help reduce PM 2.5 pollution.

This new line extension connects to three platforms. Platform 1 heading to the main line’s Nonthaburi Government Center Station (PK01), Platform 2 heading towards the main line’s Min Buri Station (PK30), and Platform 3 heading towards extension line to IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Station (MT01).
