Pratunam gets new Orange Line

Establishments surrounding the Pratunam area are spending millions, or even billions of baht, as it will be getting a Pratunam station care of the Orange line, which is scheduled in 2029. This news, which is known as the “create a version of Tokyo’s Shinjuku”, is pushing retail spaces, hotels, and shopping centers to invest more in renovation work.

In a The Nation report, the Platinum Group is investing 7.8 billion baht for “The Platinum Square”, a mixed-use project on the former Chaloem La Park site. “This is both a turning point and an opportunity for businesses in the Pratunam commercial area to reignite their vibrancy”, said in a statement. The Platinum Group are the developers of The Platinum Fashion Mall, Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam, The Market Bangkok Ratchaprasong, Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong, and Pier 111 office building.

Meanwhile, the Thai Hotel Association has proposed developing the area’s street food scene, through the “Banthat Thong 2” project.

“The Pratunam economic area changes every 5-10 years”, said Piyalert Baiyoke, vice president of the Baiyoke Hotel Group. He also said that the Orange Line’s completion “will revolutionize Pratunam, elevating it to the standards of international hubs like Hong Kong and Shinjuku”.

Krung Thong Plaza, a 24-year old fashion retail and wholesale shopping destination, is investing 10 million baht in renovations, with a 10% increase in marketing.
