Rayong Hospital is behind their nurse staff after she was slapped by a man inside the ICU. The outburst stemmed from being informed that children were not allowed in ICU, prompting the violent outburst onto the nurse.
In a The Nation report, Dr. Phusit Supsomphol, director of Rayong Hospital, announced on Tuesday that the hospital is not backing down through a compromise, and will be exhausting all legal efforts against the man who physically assaulted their staff.
Dr. Supsomphol informed the press about the incident which occured Sunday at 6pm.
n the short clip, the man was seen giving “two forehead slaps to the nurse’s head, apparently with full force, causing her to sway to one side before giving her a backhand slap to the face as he walked out of the ICU ward”, said in the report.
The medical director continued that the injured nurse “had merely informed the man that no children were allowed in the ICU due to concerns about infectious diseases, at which point he attacked her immediately.”
The nurse has already filed a complaint at the Muang Rayong police station at 7pm, on the same day of the incident.
The director also affirmed that the hospital would provide full medical assistance to the nurse “in pursuing legal action, with no compromise with the attacker”. The nurse victim also had a brain scan, which showed no brain injuries, though she was experiencing head pain and mental trauma brought on by the incident.
Pol. Col. Wepong Kongkeaw, commander of Muang Rayong police station, meanwhile, said that the man who attacked the nurse had turned himself in to face charges on Sunday. According to the man, the attack occurred in a moment when the nurse scolded him, saying “both mother and child could die” if the child was allowed inside the ICU.
Wepong quoted the man saying that he was already upset and worried about his wife’s state, which caused him to lose his temper and then threw strong slaps to the nurse.
