A 27-year-old Thai woman gave birth on a roadside in Don Muang district, Bangkok and left the newborn to die in order to join the Songkran festivities. This incident happened April 14 and later went viral on social media.
According to a Thaiger post, Piyathida, the woman who was later identified, was seen in CCTV footage the moment she delivered the baby near a parked car and walked away. “The newborn was later found alive, but rescue efforts to save the child were unsuccessful”, said the post.
Initially, Piyathida denied the allegation but later confessed. She is currently hospitalized due to blood loss and will soon face legal action.
Phuwadon Aoonpho, Superintendent of Don Mueang Police Station, said that Piyathida mentioned that she has two other children from prior marriages, both in the care of her ex-husband’s families.
Am, Piyathida’s friend, has now publicly cut ties with her. Am said that Piyathida is estranged from her family, with her mother living abroad and providing financial support. Am noticed Piyathida’s pregnancy but the later only claimed weight gain.
