Thailand flops in world English proficiency

Thailand finds itself at 106th place out of 116 countries in English proficiency based on the EF English Proficiency Index.

In a Thaiger report, the EF English Proficiency Index revealed on February 13, shows that Thailand struggles with a “very low proficiency” rating, ranking behind its ASEAN counterparts like Myanmar (93rd spot), Indonesia (80th spot), Vietnam (63rd spot), Malaysia (26th spot) and the Philippines (22nd spot). Singapore still ranks highest in the Asian region at 3rd place.

Thailand’s “very low proficiency” rating is based on a survey conducted by the EF Education First, “one of the top authorities in English language education”, the report says. Thailand got a score of 415 points; placing it far down the rankings, 21st in Asia and 7th in the ASEAN.

The Netherlands ranks top 1 with 636 points, followed closely by Norway with 610 points.
