Thailand opens its doors to vaccinated travelers on November 1

Thailand allowed fully vaccinated travelers from a list of safe countries to enter the kingdom for the first time in over two years on Monday as part of the government’s gradual reopening of borders.

Consequently, the number of highly-controlled and restricted provinces with strict Covid-19 prevention measures has been reduced from 23 to seven provinces.

Restaurants in Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Phang-nga are now allowed to sell alcoholic drinks but the reopening of pubs and bars in the capital is still pending approval from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

New Zoning

The new zoning to apply the Covid restriction measures:

  • Dark Red = seven highly-controlled and restricted provinces including Chanthaburi, Tak, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla.
  • Red = 38 highly-controlled provinces
  • Orange = 23 controlled provinces 
  • Yellow = five highly-monitored provinces including Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Bueng Kan, Mukdahan and Sakon Nakhon
  • Green = monitored provinces (none at the moment)
  • Blue = four tourist sandbox provinces including Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Phang-nga

Dark Red  

  • A curfew will continue to be in place between 11 pm and 3 am. There will be no more curfew in other provinces.
  • No activity with more than 50 people.
  • Schools require permission to reopen for onsite schooling.
  • Children and elderly care centers can open but no overnight stay.
  • Gyms and training facilities can open normally. The closing time is 10 pm.
  • Sport stadiums can open but no spectator for indoor facilities, 25 per cent capacity for outdoor facilities. Sport competitions require a permission.
  • Movies and other theaters can open but with 50 per cent capacity for air-conditioning facilities and 75 per cent for outdoor facilities.
  • Exhibition halls and conference rooms can reopen but no more than 500 people per event and not crowded.
  • Malls can open normally. The closing time is 10 pm. However, no sale promotion activities while gaming facilities, arcades, children playgrounds, water parks and fun parks are still close.
  • Convenient stores can open normally. The closing time is 10 pm.
  • Restaurants with air-conditioning can open for in store dining but at 50 per cent of the capacity. Outdoor restaurants can open for in store dining but at 75 per cent of the capacity. The closing time is 10 pm and no serving of alcoholic drinks.
  • Spas, massage facilities, beauty parlors, hairdressers and tattoo parlors can open normally but no sauna. The closing time is 10 pm.
  • Pubs, bars and other similar entertainment venues are close.

Red

  • No activity with more than 200 people.
  • Schools require permission to reopen for onsite schooling.
  • Children and elderly care centers can open normally.
  • Gyms and training facilities can open normally. The closing time is 11 pm.
  • Sport stadiums can open but 25 per cent capacity for indoor facilities, 50 per cent capacity for outdoor facilities. Sport competitions require a permission.
  • Movies and other theaters can open but with 75 per cent capacity for air-conditioning facilities.
  • Exhibition halls and conference rooms can reopen but no more than 500 people per event and not crowded.

  • Sport stadiums can open but 25 per cent capacity for indoor facilities, 50 per cent capacity for outdoor facilities.
  • Movies and other theaters can open normally.
  • Exhibition halls and conference rooms can reopen but no more than 1,000 people per event and not crowded.
  • Malls can open normally but indoor water parks and fun parks are still close.
  • Convenient stores can open normally.
  • All restaurants with can open for in store dining but no serving of alcoholic drinks.
  • Spas, massage facilities, beauty parlors, hairdressers and tattoo parlors can open normally but the closing time is midnight.
  • Pubs, bars and other similar entertainment venues are close.

Yellow

  • No activity with more than 1,000 people.
  • Schools can open normally.
  • Children and elderly care centers can open normally.
  • Gyms and training facilities can open normally.
  • Sport stadiums can open but 75 per cent capacity for indoor facilities.  
  • Movies and other theaters can open normally.
  • Exhibition halls and conference rooms can open normally.
  • Malls can open normally.
  • Convenient stores can open normally.
  • All restaurants can open normally.
  • Spas, massage facilities, beauty parlors, hairdressers and tattoo parlors can open normally.
  • Pubs, bars and other similar entertainment venues are close.

Green and Blue

  • Everything can open normally except for Bangkok where the BMA has yet to decide whether to allow pubs, bars and other similarentertainment venues to reopen.
