Thailand ranks 49th in World Happiness Report 2024

A study conducted by the University of Oxford ranked Thailand in the 49th place in the World Happiness Report for 2024.

According to a Bangkok Post report, out of 147 countries surveyed, Finland remained the happiest country for eight years while Afghanistan was the least.

Thailand was ranked 58th in 2023.

Participants from each country were polled to evaluate their level of happiness on a scale of zero to 10, where 0 is completely dissatisfied and 10 as the most satisfied.

Among its ASEAN peers, Singapore (34th) ranked 1st, with Vietnam (46th) at second, followed by Thailand (49th). The Philippines (57th) follows Thailand among its ASEAN peers while Myanmar (126) lags the least.

According to Deputy Government Spokesman Anukul Prueksanusak, the happiness index was divided into 6 sections – social support, GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and perceptions of corruption.

Anukul said Thailand ranked 8th for generosity, “which reflected Thai’s continued support for each other”.

Anukul welcomed the 49th place position as a “good sign for Thailand”, while other segments could need some improvements.
