Thailand ranks 9th in world instant noodles consumption

Thailand has ranked 9th in the world instant noodles consumption, according to the latest study released by the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA).

In a The Nation post, the study was based on total packs consumed annually, including 15 countries with the highest demand for instant noodles.

China and Hong Kong leads the list, with consumptions soaring to 42.2 billion packs a year.

Thailand’s recorded annual consumption reached 4 billion packs, just behind South Korea and the Philippines.

The study also explains that the popularity of instant noodles is a reflection of convenience, affordability and economic status in how it is a staple comfort food.

The report also reflects how Asia dominates the market for instant noodles. It also reflects the country’s cultural preference and the large population driving the high consumptions.

India – 8.7 billion packs/year

Vietnam – 8.1 billion packs/year

Japan – 5.8 billion packs/year

United States – 5.1 billion packs/year

Philippines – 4.4 billion packs/year

South Korea – 4.0 billion packs/year

Thailand – 4.0 billion packs/year

Nigeria – 3.0 billion packs/year
