A research study organized by Klook, an online travel and booking platform, has listed travel as the top choice for Gen Y and Z to “de-stress and improve their well-being before heading back to grind of work or studies”.
In a The Nation article, the study surveyed over 7,000 individuals from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Australia, China, India and Indonesia. The subjects showed that more than half of Millenials and Gen Z are willing to shell out for travel in order to relax and “escape the pressures of their daily lives, often seeking self-discovery or fresh inspiration”.
Around 48% of the respondents, or nearly half, reported “feeling happier and more positive after a trip”. Whether a short break or an overseas trip, will enable them to return with renewed vigour.
Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Vietnam have been named as the top preferred destinations among the Millennials and Gen Z’s surveyed.
Included in these trips are visiting famous landmarks and tourist attractions, shopping sprees and taking in shows or exhibitions.
Escaping stress and nurturing mental health, seeking meaningful and enriching new experiences, influence of social media trends and obtaining good value for money have topped as reasons for such behaviour.
Klook’s Global Vice President for Marketing Marcus Yong said that experiences are more than just things to do, they offer a fresh perspective on oneself. In an increasingly uncertain world, many are seeking moments to reconnect with their inner selves.
