Two Filipinas died and four other persons were injured after a serious car accident just outside the Lucky Plaza Shopping Centre in Singapore on Sunday, December 29, 2019.
Rosemarie Reyes, 41, and Liza Niez, 47 and several other Filipino domestic helpers in Singapore were having a picnic in the area were the accident happened. Lucky Plaza is a popular gathering place for Filipino workers in Singapore on their day off on Sundays.
The 64 year-old Grab driver was arrested for dangerous-driving causing death.
The Centre for Domestic Employees issued a statement which reads:
“Our officers are at the hospital currently, and found out that all the six victims are Filipino domestic workers, and two of them tragically lost their lives.
“We will be getting in touch with the employers and next-of-kin to find out the support they require, and stand ready to render assistance.”
Meanwhile Grab spokesperson said that it will conduct an investigation, “We are deeply saddened to hear about the accident and are assisting the authorities in the investigation.”
