Chief of Defense Forces General Pornpipat Benyasri, who is responsible for national security related to the emergency situation, said that a total of 357 checkpoints had been set up across the country to help control the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Out of this number, seven are in Bangkok, and five more checkpoints will be established in the city. The checkpoints are being operated by policemen, civil servants, and volunteers; and some are also manned by soldiers.
They will screen inter-provincial travelers, check the body temperature, and ask the reasons for traveling. In this regard, travelers are required to bring with them their ID cards, wear hygienic masks, and practice social distancing.
Although people are not prohibited from traveling, they have been urged not to travel during this time for the sake of public health. They are also advised to follow the guidelines, set by the Ministry of Public Health, in order to protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus. More stringent measures will be imposed, if the number of infected persons continues to increase rapidly.
The Ministry of Public Health on 26 March 2020 reported 111 new COVID-19 cases in Thailand, raising the number of confirmed cases to 1045. Out of the number of confirmed cases, 88 have been cured; 953 are still hospitalized; and four have died.
As of 07:00 a.m. on 26 March 2020, since 5 January 2020, the international situation has involved 194 countries, two special administrative regions of China, and one cruise ship. There were 457,930 confirmed cases and 20,780 deaths. 81,218 of these confirmed cases and 3,281 of these deaths are from the People’s Republic of China. 74,386 of these confirmed cases and 7,503 of these deaths are from Italy.
