A total of 240 medals were brought in by Filipino elementary and secondary students at the 2016 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge in Bangkok on July 20-24, 2016.
The Philippine team also placed second overall among the nine countries that participated in the math olympiad. China ranked first in the contest.
Among the 350 Filipino students who flew to the kingdom, they garnered a total of 34 gold, 74 silver and 132 bronze medals. The group also also won 87 merit awards.
Aside from China and the Philippines, other participating countries include Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam.
“Our delegates showed a very good performance in the contest and we are very happy,” said Dr. Archieval Rodriguez, president of the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines.
