Help sought for 16 Filipino seafarers stranded in Koh Si Chang

Distressed Filipino seafarers who have been stranded on a ship in Koh Si Chang, Thailand are now appealing for help. The 16 Overseas Filipino Workers who work as seamen have not been paid since April and they are now in dire need of food and medicine as their supplies have reached rock bottom.

The group sailed from Iran where they also got stranded for nine days after having the same problem. They decided to sail to Thailand after signing an agreement with the owner, charterer and the crew that the company will pay all their unpaid wages and buy them air tickets to Manila. However, the company never fulfilled its promises after the seafarers arrival in Thailand.

After more than a month of living aboard the stranded ship, some of the Pinoy seamen have become sick and in need of medical attention. Their food supplies have also run out.

In Facebook post on July 21, one of the crew members narrated their situation and appealed for help. Click here to know more about their whole story: 16 Filipino seafarers stranded in Thailand ask for help

“Ang iba po sa aming kasamahan ay nangangailangan ng atensyong medikal. Lubos din po kaming nag alala dahil ang food supply po namin ay halos pa ubus na rin,” said Mr Armel Olano who is among the 16 stranded seamen.

The Philippine Embassy in Thailand came to their aid on Friday to check their situation and to provide legal assistance. However, other supplies such as food, water and medicine are among their immediate needs.

For your help and donation, you may deposit any amount to the Association of Filipinos in Thailand (AFT) bank account. AFT is a registered non-profit organisation in Thailand. It is also recognized by the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.
