70,000+ New COVID Infections Recorded Last Week in Thailand

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has recorded a significant jump in COVID-19 cases with 76,161 new infections and 40 additional deaths, with some raising concerns about the on-going outbreak.

In a Thaiger news article, the numbers mentioned above span from May 24 to June 14, bringing a total of 476,584 cases since January 1. Among these new cases, 72,166 were hospitalized, while 3,996 were treated as outpatients. National death toll for the year has reached 154.

Bangkok remains the top infected area with 17,945 cases, followed by Chonburi with 3,315 cases, Nakhon Ratchasima with 3,027 cases, Chiang Mai with 2,678 cases and Rayong with 1,775 cases, just in the past week.

Data shows that individuals aged 60 and above remain the most affected, recording 14,757 cases.

Age groups 30-39 and 20-29 are also significantly impacted with 14,561 and 13,889 cases respectively.

Ministry departments continue to encourage the public to practice preventive measure such as mask wearing, hand sanitation and receiving booster shots, especially for high-risk groups.
