8 females topped PMA Salaknib Class of 2017

It was a female-dominated class graduation for the Philippine Military Academy as 8 of the Top 10 were women.

Salaknib Class of 2017 held their graduation rites in Fort Del Pilar in Baguio City and 8 of the Top 10 were women. Cadet First Class Rovi Mairel Valino Martinez almost quit the PMA due to the intense and harsh training but still pursued and finished it due to family and friends’ encouragement. There are 167 members of Salaknib Class of 2017 who received military commission from President Duterte on March 12, Sunday.

Part of the top 10 are Cadets First Class Eda Glis Buansi Marapao of Baguio City ranking third; Cathleen Jovi Santiano Baybayan of San Fernando, Pampanga who ranked fourth; Shiela Joy Ramiro Jallorina of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, sixth; Sheila Marie Calonge de Guzman of Manaoag, Pangasinan at seventh; Joyzy Mencias Funchica of Butuan City, eighth; Resie Jezreel Arrocena Hucalla of Nabunturan Compostela Valley, ninth and Catherine Mae Gonzales of Zamboanga City ranking 10th.

The only 2 male cadets who made it in the Top 10 are Cadet First Class Philip Modestano Viscaya of Ligao City Albay who ranked second and Carlo Emmanuel Manalansan Canlas of Lubao, Pampanga at fifth.

Martinez is the fourth female cadet to top the PMA and aside from graduating cum laude, she also received 11 awards including the Presidential Saber and the Philippine Navy Saber.
