It was a Manny Pacquiao in-the-making moment as Rey Megrino finished his opponent in just 23 seconds last March 11, Saturday in Hong Kong.
Filipino boxer Rey “Delubyo” Megrino, with a record of 24-20-4, knocked out his Japanese opponent Yuki Kobayashi by clinching a right hand counter leaving the opponent motionless prompting the referee to end the match without a count. Megrino, of Lopez Jaena in Misamis Occidental had a very peculiar start as he was thrown into hard-core contenders including Denver Cuello who he defeated due to a cut caused by a headbutt which was ruled to be a product of a punch, and Ponsaklek Wonjonkam, a Thai fighter who ended his career as a top billed fighter.
Megrio who is managed by Baguio-based Brico Santig and trained by Joven Jorda has made an undefeated fighter in his last 10 fights. He is described “high-risk, low-reward opponent”.
His latest fight was promoted by DEF Promotions where 2 other filipino fighters, Mark Anthony Gerldo of Kibawe, Bukidnon scored a unanimous decision over Kenny Demecillo of Illigan City in Lanao del Norte.
