In a bulletin released on 28 February, the Department of Foreign affairs confirmed the death of an unnamed Filipino who drowned off Flinders Beach in North Stradbroke Island on Monday, 25 February. The victim was a student from Queensford College in Brisbaine.
DFA further stated that “this is the fifth drowning incident abroad involving Filipinos since the start of the year. Two Filipinos earlier drowned in separate incidents in New Zealand while a couple also drowned while on their honeymoon in the Maldives.”
The DFA through the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs is in contact with the family of the victim who have earlier requested the agency’s assistance regarding the repatriation of the victim’s remain.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extends its deepest sympathy to the family of a Filipino student who drowned in Australia on Monday, 25 February,” accordint to the DFA in a statement.
