Thai Airways, Thailand’s flag carrier, has issued a statement that usage of power banks in flights will be prohibited, starting March 15, 2025.
This new regulation is implemented to ensure the “highest level of safety for passengers and crew”, said in a post. This new policy comes along after incidents of power banks catching fire and exploding during flights.
Also in the Philippines, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued that power banks that exceed 160 watt-hours are strictly prohibited in flights.
In a GMA News article, this news CAAP regulation will allow power banks in hand-carry luggage but these must not exceed 100 watt-hours. For power banks with 1– to 160 watts-hours, they must first be approved by the airlines.
It is an international regulation that power banks are not allowed in checked-in luggages as they may cause fire hazard due to air pressure, and temperature.
