After successful trials over the past few weeks, the Ministry of Interior has confirmed the nationwide launch of the Cell Broadcast Emergency Alert System for July 2025. The system is aimed to deliver real-time emergency notifications on disasters, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, floods, landslides and even severe air pollution covering a specific area or location.
In a National News Bureau of Thailand post, alerts will include both text and audio messages, “ensuring accessibility for people with hearing or visual impairments without requiring any additional applications”.
The Interior Ministry, under Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has coordinated with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commision, the Public Relations Department, and Thailand’s three main mobile network operators to conduct early tests across the country, which started in early May.
According to the timeline, the next step includes the installation of the central Cell Broadcast System, which will manage and send government alerts to mobile users through network providers. The system will be fully functional by July, the report suggests.
Public awareness campaign of the new system is also being run nationwide in order to reduce confusion when the emergency alerts are triggered.
