Direk Wenn Deramas dies after knowing sister’s death

Acclaimed Filipino television and film director Wenn Deramas died on Monday of cardiac arrest. He was 47 years old.

According to Deramas’ friend, June Rufino, the director died at the emergency room of Capitol Medical Center at around 2 a.m., reports ABS-CBN news.

He said Deramas went there to see his sister who earlier succumbed to cardiac arrest.

Rufino said there were numerous attempts to revive Deramas but his heart did not respond anymore.

“When he arrived there, biglang tumirik din ang mata niya. Sixty-six seconds lang ang reviving period, wala talaga,” Rufino told DZMM radio.

Deramas was known for directing box-office comedy hits which include “Ang Tanging Ina” series, “Petrang Kabayo,” “Sisterakas,” “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin,” “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin,” and the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry and the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, “Beauty and the Bestie.”

He is also known for directing memorable television dramas such as “Mula Sa Puso,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon,” “Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan,” and “Marina.”

Deramas graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He then started his career in the entertainment industry as a production assistant.

His remains will be brought to Arlington Memorial Chapel in Araneta Avenue today.
