President Duterte visits Thailand to strengthen ties

The President’s official visit to Thailand is all set on March 20-22, 2017. The President and his entourage will be in the kingdom to discuss economic and foreign policy, including security-related matters, and also to encourage stronger ties to the kingdom. Concerns on political, economic, agricultural, energy, education and defence related matters will also be discussed in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha.

Lt. General Werachon, deputy government spokesperson, said that both countries will discuss prevalent and timely issues on drugs, cooperation between intelligence agencies and  solving insurgency problems with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) based in Mindanao among a few.

President Duterte is expected to arrive in Thailand on Monday, March 20 through a chartered flight from Myanmar, at the Military Air Terminal, inside the Royal Thai Navy vicinity later that evening. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-Cha will officially receive President Duterte at the Government House the following day where both government leaders will witness a signing of Memorandum of Understanding, Regulation and Agreement, still inside the Government House in Bangkok. President Duterte’s day will end with an honorary dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Thailand on March 21.

The President will be meeting the members of the Filipino community on March 22 at the Royal Thai Navy Hall at 7:00pm before flying back to Manila. This is to conclude his “introductory visit” to Myanmar and Thailand since taking office last year.
