Two Filipinos, a network executive and a renowned actor, graced the red carpet of the 43rd International Emmy Awards in New York City on Monday night, November 23.
ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio and actor Piolo Pascual served as gala chair and presenter respectively at the International Academy which recognizes excellence in television.
Pascual will be the first Filipino presenter at the iEmmys. Other celebrity presenters include Academy Award winner Michael Douglas and “Star Trek” veteran actor George Takei.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is a membership based organization comprised of leading media and entertainment figures from over 60 countries and 500 companies from all sectors of television including internet, mobile and technology.
“I’m very very proud to represent my company ABS-CBN, and I’m very, very proud also that I am Filipino and I’m here to represent our country. Part of the mission of ABS-CBN is to make sure that we share stories of Filipino strength and resilience and I think it should go beyond the Philippines. Our content should reach the international shores. I hope to be able to bring that to the consciousness of the international community here at the iEmmys,” Santos-Concio said in an interview posted on ABS-CBN online news.
Pascual, for his part, said he is honored and excited just to be at the iEmmys and represent the Philippines along with Santos-Concio.
“This is something new for me. I’m just really excited to be there and represent the country and be with tita Charo. I’m really excited because we are carrying the flag of the Philippines,” he said.
