AI police robot helps arrests in Nakhon Pathom

The Royal Thai Police has reported that their “Nakhon Pathom Safe” humanoid AI police robot has been of good use, especially during the Songkran festivities.

Developed by the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police, in coordination with Nakhon Pathom City Municipality, “AI Police Cyborg 1.0” is equipped with “360-degrees surveillance and artificial intelligence to assist with crowd control and public safety”. Since its pilot testing during the Songran Festival on Tonson Road, it has aided in the capture of 14 individuals with outstanding warrants.

In a National News Bureau of Thailand report, the AI Police Cyborg 1.0 “integrates CCTV and drone footage from public venues, using onboard facial recognition and video analytics to identify suspects.” Information then will be transmitted to the Command and Control Center for centralized monitoring. The AI robot can detect weapons, analyze behaviour, and track individuals based on facial features, clothing and other physical attributes.

The report continued that the said AI robot has also been used in various areas in Nakhon Pathom, including the Phutthamonthon Sai 5 cockfighting arena, the local night market, and Central Salaya Mall. Arrests made with the robot’s assistance included individuals with drug related charges, firearms, theft, fraud and cybercrime.

National Police Chief Pol Gen Kitrat Panphet praised the robot’s “performance and cost-effectiveness”. Adding that it offers “a new model for enhancing public security while reducing reliance on manpower. Its integration with surveillance networks and criminal databases has encouraged plans for broader deployment within six months”.

The AI robot is being considered a model for future applications as the Provincial Police Region 7 will be managing its rollout.
