Thailand has announced on Tuesday, August 3 through its Royal Gazette a ban on sunscreen in its national parks.
A fine of up to 100,000 baht (around 150,000 Philippine pesos) to anyone caught violating the new law awaits and is effective immediately.
The Department of National Parks explained that sunscreen causes damage to coral reefs and marine life.
The ban affects all sorts of sunscreen which include the chemicals Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, 4-Methylbenzyl, and Butylparaben.
Corals need years to grow before anyone can wonder at their natural formation, but once killed off by harmful things such as sunscreen chemicals along with climate change and pollution, they cannot grow back.
Probably, it is about time for sunscreen manufacturers to invest in products that will not harm the natural habitat.
